Home :: Fibres :: Tencel

Tencel is a commercial name for Lyocell fibre. It is a cellulose fibre made from wood pulp, but this fibre seems about as far away from wooden as you could get. It is extremely shiny, white and soft.  It is absorbent, very strong when wet or dry, and resistant to wrinkles when woven. Lyocell in a fabric can be machine or hand-washed or dry cleaned. It drapes well. It can be dyed many colors, using a dye for plant fibres.

Tencel is often used in fibre blends.  It is useful for spinning, carding, felting, dyeing, and paper-making.

Tencel/Lyocell is available in 100 and 200 gram portions.  (100g = 3.52 ounces and 200g = 7.04 ounces)
