Next Steps in 3-Dimensional Needle-Felt Sculptures

Saturday, March 10, 9:30 to 3pm at Legacy Studio

This workshop is designed for people who have some 3-dimensional needle-felt experience and want to learn new techniques, and expand their creative and technical ability.

We'll be discussing:

  • the basics of using the needles effectively and efficiently - a quick refresher
  • building and integrating basic wire armatures (frameworks) into felt sculptures - this greatly expands your ability to create more complex, self-supporting structures
  • creating a solid internal core structure - this will help you to efficiently create firm sculptures
  • how to let color and the natural properties of wool take you n new, creative directions
  • using embellishments to create unique personalities

We'll start with working on a funky bird (see photo).  Thee fellas have an external/internal armature and are an excellent way to start working with basic armatures while being creative.  We'll be building a solid internal core around an armature.  The we'll cover it with colored wool, experimenting wit soft sculpting and adding embellishments to create a uique bird.  I'll bring eamples to get your creative ideas going.  In the second half, we'll work on a creative sculpture with an internal armature - this will give you an opportunity to learn how to wrap woool arod thin appendages and experiment with different techniques.
