This fibre is Ramie Top. “Top” means that it has been combed and the fibres are all aligned parallel.
Ramie is a plant fibre related to the Nettle. The stem of the plant is used for fibre. Ramie is absorbent, anti-microbial and resists wrinkling. It may be spun wet or dry. Spun dry it produces a somewhat more “hairy” yarn. Ramie is strong. It exhibits even greater strength when wet. Ramie fiber is known especially for its ability to hold shape, reduce wrinkling, and introduce a silky luster to the fabric appearance. It is not as durable as some other fibers, so is often blended with fibres such as cotton or wool.
Ramie is packaged in 50 gram portions.
